Winding Routes and Precarious Switchbacks

چکیده

Silk Road developments increased interconnectivity through trade, but little is written about the resulting effect on food diversity. I used three methodologically, geographically and temporally diverse studies examining aspects of during period to identify key factors affecting botanical dietary diversification in Central Asia first millennium. Archaeological historical data from a study Tashbulak (800-1100) revealed narrowing genetic diversity accompanying cultivation, also broadening options trade human interventions that created new plant varieties. A comparative medieval (500-1300) using remains published isotopic (δ13C δ15N) records urban non-urban consumers Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan region showed fostered greater overall than occurred Iron Age early millennium (1300 BCE- 600 CE). It that, although enhanced opportunities facilitated food-diversity trend, positive movement was eroded by urban, insular agricultural communities with reified social structures. Foodways analysis recipe books Mongol (1200-1400), multi-cultural interaction diversity, whereas changing power dynamics, tradition, sense place countered trend. The not unilinear path toward rather, series winding routes beset potentially precarious switchbacks. Travelling back along uncovers critical turning points can inform global approaches 21st century.

Precarious manhood.

The authors report 5 studies that demonstrate that manhood, in contrast to womanhood, is seen as a precarious state requiring continual social proof and validation. Because of this precariousness, they argue that men feel especially threatened by challenges to their masculinity. Certain male-typed behaviors, such as physical aggression, may result from this anxiety. Studies 1-3 document a robus...

A precarious balance

a haploid organism directly leads to an altered phenotype, making forward and reverse genetic approaches more straightforward in haploid moss than in diploid seed plants. A major additional asset of mosses came from the discovery that, in the moss Physcomitrella patens, recombination occurs between DNA introduced into cells by transfection and homologous sequences in its nuclear DNA. This occur...

BGP Stability is Precarious

We note a fact which is simple, but may be useful for the networking research community: essentially any change to BGP’s decision process can cause divergence — or convergence when BGP would otherwise diverge.

The precarious prokaryotic chromosome.

Evolutionary selection for optimal genome preservation, replication, and expression should yield similar chromosome organizations in any type of cells. And yet, the chromosome organization is surprisingly different between eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The nuclear versus cytoplasmic accommodation of genetic material accounts for the distinct eukaryotic and prokaryotic modes of genome evolution, b...

Precarious manhood and displays of physical aggression.

The results of three experiments demonstrate that physically aggressive displays are part of men's cultural script for restoring threatened gender status. In Studies 1 and 2, challenges to men's gender status elicited heightened physically aggressive displays, including punching a pad with greater force and selecting an aggressive boxing activity over a nonaggressive puzzle activity. Study 3 es...
